The Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court has imposed a life imprisonment sentence on Tony Akpan, a school bus driver, for the sexual assault of a five-year-old pupil. The police had brought forth five witnesses who testified against Akpan, charging him with sexual assault under sections 137 and 415 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The presiding judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye, emphasized the overwhelming evidence and the truthful testimony of the survivor and medical doctor. As a result, Akpan was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Additionally, Itoro Wilson, the school bus assistant, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for aiding the convict in evading justice. Justice Soladoye also urged the school authorities to employ responsible staff to care for minors.
