SA’s ultimate coastal residence sold for $8.25m, sets new regional record

A private 2km-long beach, custom-built helipad, dune buggy racetrack and an aquaponics geo-dome, this iconic property in Yorke Peninsula truly has it all. And now, it’s ready to welcome its new owner.

‘The Dunes’ at 400 Coopers Beach Rd in Nalyappa has sold for an eye-watering $8,250,000, setting a new benchmark for residential sales price in regional SA.

According to CoreLogic data, the top spot was previously held by 5 Victoria St, Yorketown that sold for $2,250,000 in July 2012.

Represented by Grant Giordano of Giordano & Partners and Deborah Cullen of Cullen Royle Property & Advisory, the home was owned by well-known entrepreneur Peter Michell and designed by architect Max Pritchard in Scandinavian style.

The home has six bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and two lounge rooms with double-glazed walls offering uninterrupted and breathtaking views of the landscape.

Beyond the stunning architecture and panoramic views, the home is entirely self-sufficient and off the grid. It has 80kW of solar panelling, 300,000L rainwater tanking, a honey-producing apiary and a purpose-built aquaponics geo-dome, where you can grow vegetables and herbs all year round. It also houses a 45,000L fish pond currently stocked with over 60 edible Silver Perch.

“Something as special and irreplaceable as The Dunes deserves a record price. All involved in this transaction hope this important sale is only a precursor to continued exponential housing price growth across Adelaide and South Australia,” Mr Giordano said.

Set on 110.48ha of land, overlooking a stunning seascape, the luxurious home has been bought by a South Australian family who work and live in Australia as well as Southeast Asia.

“It will be utilised as a private retreat for their family and close friends to get together and away from their busy lives,” Mr Giordano said.

The luxurious home, which was completed in seven years, received immense interest from buyers.

“Throughout our campaign, we had an array of buyers from all around Australia and overseas assess this incredibly iconic home. But, it is very exciting to see a local family compete so fiercely for it,” Ms Cullen said.

“South Australia is now showing the rest of the country what a beautiful luxury lifestyle you can have, together with such incredible value,” she said.
