The court has heard that neonatal nurse Lucy Letby reportedly returned to kill a baby whose twin brother she had allegedly murdered just 24 hours earlier, and also attempted to murder a baby girl on multiple occasions within a month. The nurse is accused of murdering five boys and two girls while working as a neonatal nurse.
Letby is also accused of leaving a baby girl severely disabled after overfeeding her with milk and injecting her with air. The court was told that Letby targeted the baby, known as Baby G, on multiple occasions in September 2015, after she had been moved to another hospital. Letby allegedly attempted to kill Baby G two more times in one shift on September 21.
Furthermore, Letby is accused of attempting to murder a child known as Baby F, less than 24 hours after allegedly murdering his twin, Baby E. The court heard that Letby showed a keen interest in the families of the twins, even conducting social media searches on them, including on Christmas Day. Letby denies the charges and her parents are supporting her at the trial.
The court also heard various allegations about other incidents, including Letby’s alleged use of insulin to poison babies and her attempts to establish alibis in medical records. The trial continues with the prosecution outlining its case on the second day of the trial.
