Joseph Elliott Girardi was born on October 14, 1964 in Peoria, Illinois to the family of Jerry and Angela Girardi. He is the fourth of his parents’ five children. he has three brothers (Gerald, George and John) and one sister (Maria). Her father was a United States Air Force veteran and former office worker.
He attended several schools growing up; first it was Neil Armstrong School in East Peoria, then Sacred Heart/Father Sweeney in Peoria, where he learned to play basketball under the tutelage of his own father. . Joe would later attend the Academy of Notre Dame/Spalding Institute in Peoria, Illinois, where his love for baseball ignited. At Our Lady/Spalding Institute, he played on the school baseball team, as well as the football team, but had a special interest in baseball.

He started his career in 1986 after the Chicago Cubs drafted him into their minor league. After four seasons in the minor league, he was promoted to the major league where he made his debut in 1989. Since then, his career has been a resounding success. He has racked up some amazing stats over his career. as a baseball player with a .267 batting average per game and 36 home runs. Other clubs he has played for are the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinal.
In 2003, he retired from baseball after retiring sixteen games and batting .130 with just one run for the St. Louis Cardinals that season. He then became a commentator on YES Network, his good job as host of youth-focused Yankees on Deck in 2004 earned him good reviews and an opportunity for Yankee shows in 2005, but he turned down the offer as well as another offer to become the bench coach of the Florida Marlins, along with a future offer to manager the team in 2006.
